The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857.  For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration. 

With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!

Sadly, our great friend Smiler passed away on 2nd May.

To celebrate his life in the mountains, we invite all his friends to an evening of illustrated talks and a buffet meal.

The Celtic has a big room (c. 200 people). Due to Smiler’s popularity and large circle of friends, we expect many to come, so book early to avoid disappointment!

The Celtic has ample car parks, but being a town centre location, an electronic permit system operates. No barriers, you just park your car, go to reception and type in your registration number.

The hotel is an old establishment with a quaint feeling of Victoriana. It also has a big bar, and comfortable lounges for just sitting and chilling.
