The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857.  For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.

The Club will be saddened to learn that Dr Jim Milledge, a past Vice-President, and renowned for his research on the physiology of altitude, has died.  

The funeral service will be held on 17 March - more details later.

Very sorry to hear of Jim's death. Before my first expedition to Central Asia (Chinese Pamirs), in 1989, Jim gave up valuable time, and went out of his way in other ways, to give detailed advice about acclimatisation, very much to the expedition's benefit.A kind, good, scholarly man.
