The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857. For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.
With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!
Becoming a MemberOn the 25th October this year, The Alpine Club will be awarding the Spirit of Mountaineering commendation to four Pakistani helicopter pilots of the “Fearless 5” (5 Squadron) in a flagship event organized by the Pakistani embassy at Unesco in Paris.
This commendation is to recognize the bravoury of demonstrated by Lt. Col. Muhammad Anjum Rafique, Maj. Fakhar-e-Abbas, Maj. Jehanzeb Qazi and Maj. Muhammad Hussain Hamid first in the rescue of French alpinist Elisabeth Revol and then later in the year in 3 more daring rescues including AC member Bruce Normand.
All AC members are warmly welcome to the event. The entrance is free and the Pakistani embassy will be hosting all present with a traditional dinner. If you are interested in mountaineering and other outdoor pursuits in Pakistan such a heliskiing, and rafting, this is the key event for you!
Françoise Call and Rick Allen will be there representing the AC. Let’s be more!
