Welcome to the

Alpine Club

The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857.  For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.

With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!

Becoming a Member

Hello!

Thanks for taking the time to scan!

You're walking past the George Starkey Hut. We (the Alpine Club) run the hut in partnership with the Association of British Members of the Swiss Alpine Club (ABMSAC) and use of the hut is just one of the many benefits of Alpine Club membership.

As the world's oldest mountaineering club, we offer a huge range of resources for mountaineers, including an extensive programme of climbing meets, our mountain archive, library, map collection, regional lectures, an annual copy of the Alpine Journal, regular newsletters and expedition funding.

We are always keen to welcome new members who will benefit from the collective experience and comeraderie of the club as well as our dedicated support for climbers in the early stages of their alpine careers. You can learn more about AC membership here, but please take a look around the site as a whole and learn about what the club is up to - from exhibitions and meets to our work on ethical advice for mountaineers.
